When Dust Mites Attack

There is nothing to fully prepare you the first time you see a dust mite. Even though these disgusting little buggers are small, they look like something straight out of as science fiction movie, so when you hear they are feeding on skin cells, which basically makes them human predators, you are right to get a little bit grossed out. Luckily, your friends at Erv’s Vac Shop have some great ideas for getting these guys dead…quick!

Remove dust by wiping and vacuuming
This might seem like and obvious one, but it is hard for these flash eaters (ok, maybe that is a little over the top, lol) to survive if the dust and dirt are not existent. So do yourself a favor and keep the dust busted…no pun intended.
Steam clean carpets, rugs, and furniture
The steam is an amazing way to fry these ugly ducklings. Steam cleaning all of the soft surfaces is a great way to make sure that these unwanted house guests are dead.
Freeze items of clothing and stuffed animals
Yep, you heard us right, we said freeze! Freezing makes sure that these guys die as well. it’s all about extreme cold or heat.
Use a tea tree oil/eucalyptus spray
Unlike Koala bears, these miniatures do NOT thrive on Eucalyptus. IN fact, a little tea tree pool and some eucalyptus spray and dust mites might just be nowhere to be found!
Use a hypoallergenic mattress and pillow or an anti-allergy protector
Seems a little self explanatory, but if you are using these barriers, the dust mites will not be able to get inside. They will either starve, or find a better feeding ground. Either way, you win!
Don’t make your bed in the morning
Now for my personal favorite! Yes, NOT making the bed (at least first thing) eliminates the dampness from your body while you sleep, and therefore eliminates the moist warm place under the covers that dust mites LOVE.
Use SEBO duo-P Cleaning Powder Cleans Carpet and Upholstery

This amazing powder cleans carpets or upholstery to like new condition and removes even the most stubborn stains! It is made of polyurethane granules moistened with a cleaner and is environmentally friendly and safe to use. And, unlike other cleaning powders, no “pre-spray” is needed. (Tightly seal partially used packages after opening to maintain moisture.)

When the powder is worked into the carpet fibers, the moistened sponge-like granules lift soil and stains out. Within 30 to 60 minutes, the powder is dry and is removed by vacuuming, leaving the carpet or upholstery clean, dry and ready for use. And the GAF allergy research center in Germany found that six months after a single cleaning with duo-P, seven out of ten carpets remained free of dust mite allergens.

These of course are just a few ways to eliminate dust mites from your home. There are many more, but if you follow these seven you will be off to a good start to making sure these creepy critters are nowhere near you and your family!
